Welcome to The Tower Stories

In May 2023 The Friends of St Michael’s the Archangel Church in Mere, Wiltshire rejoiced in winning a £247,843 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund towards their project ‘The Tower Stories’. Along with generous donations from the community and other grants this means that the Church Tower could be restored and the work was completed in May 2024.  The medieval tower can now be enjoyed by all and if you wish to book a guided tour please book here.

The community programme brings to life the Tower’s rich and varied stories by creating new, family friendly interpretations of the Tower’s rich heritage and the part played by the stonemasons, the gilders, the architects, the bell ringers and the local people of Mere.
